Like, if there was a general theme, like, for the next six weeks, would be Wayne's looking for love?

That's exactly what happened with series sensation, Letter Kenny. The kitschy comedy still holds the record for biggest debut of any series since Crave TV started streaming two years ago, and Crave users watch Letterkenny more than any other series or title. Here to talk success and small town humor is Letterkenny creator and actor Jared Keeso and actor Nathan Dales. Thank you so much for being here, you two.

a really fun show. I joked last time we were talking about Letterkenny that it's really hard to find clips because, full warning, it is not suitable for work.

It's a bit of a minefield. Yeah.

of a minefield. So it must be fun for you guys.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. We have a blast. We'd, I think it I speak for all of us, and I say we do the show for the rest of our lives if we could. Yeah. We love every second.

how much you love it. Jared, take us back right to the beginning. Where did the idea for Letterkenny come from?

Well, it started as an anonymous Twitter account that, my best pal Jordan Behrens and I started, called Listy Problems, and it dealt with problems facing people in our hometown, Listowall, Ontario. And from there, I I took it to Dalsey, and I said, you know, I think that we could rebrand this and shoot it and and have some luck. And we did. We did five episodes, two minute episodes that we threw on YouTube, and and then, we got to we got to come here to the Bell building and pitch.

So what was that reaction like, online? Because it can be can be swift. It can be kind. It can be cruel. What did you guys see right away?

The reaction was a very positive sort of right away. I mean, there was not a lot of, negative comments or negative, you know, anything towards it. It was, people were really enjoying it. Like the fast paced humor

Yeah.

And, you know, like the jokes and had a giggle and had to rewatch, you know, a hundred times type of deal. And, so that was that was super positive right from the get go.

Oh, that must have been a good feeling because then you know you know right away you had something good.

Yeah. You know, it it it was a concept that we rolled the dice on, because, things that Dalzie and I had thrown up on YouTube in the past, like, were targeted to to kind of a a niche audience that that we knew would be there. Letterkenny problems, it was was just a real roll of the dice and and that that, you know, we're pretty fortunate that that's the one that stuck for us.

Jared, you are from small town Ontario.

Yep.

What has been the response from your hometown? There's, what, nine thousand people?

I I I think that the sign says fifty three hundred in the stool. Yep. And, I like to say that that the biggest Letterkenny fans on planet Earth are are in list dueling. My mom's just maybe got one backhanded comment at

the bank, but that's it.

That's amazing.

Something like, you know it's about us. Right?

But no. Yeah.

Oh, that's good. Nathan, you played Jared's sidekick on the show. Let's watch a little bit between the two of you.

Well, me, I I had the lines down here, and then I all I had to do is, like, read it and then look up and deliver it. So that's that's the secret there.

Yeah. There's, mine's fortunately a little bit easier than his part on that. I've just got, basically, the one line for those. So those were pretty easy to, to remember.

And you had it memorized when you came to set. I couldn't believe it. Yeah. Yeah. What's this guy doing actual work for? It's, it's great doing

some charity. We have these, like, huge pieces of dialogue, and he's just going off and rallying, rallying, rallying, and then we'll go and do my takes. And it's it's just like one word? One word? Well, it's just, like, makes makes my job pretty pretty easy.

You guys have great rapport, though.

You're the straight man, and you've got the one liners that just get everyone going.

Yeah.

It's pretty awesome.

It's, yeah, it's a a cool thing that we've got going there with, with with the four Hicks and two others played by, Kate Trevor Wilson and Michelle Mylett. Everyone's, kind kinda got their own unique identity. You play off each other pretty well.

So people can catch season one and season two already, but you guys are now filming season three or getting underway. So what can we look forward to?

A

lot of the same except in the snow, I think is the the simplest way to put it. But, yeah, we're we're all looking forward to it. Dilsey and I have, have have invested in, you know, Everest worthy winter jackets that we're looking forward to putting to the test in the Northern Ontario winter.

Oh, and it's frigid.

This morning, it's a wind chill into the minus forty. So

yeah. Yeah. It's not gonna it's not gonna be super pleasant, but these

jackets are really gonna take some of the sting out of they're they're the kind that are, big enough so you're knocking over lampshades and stuff like that when you're, you know, walking into anywhere. Making a statement with that jacket. It's puffy enough.

True Canadian winter jackets. I'm sure. You guys, thank you so much for

Oh, I just had a big smile watching the whole thing. Oh, it's just so great to to see, where they started and where they they came from. Right? And, and what to to now see them at the end where they didn't think that they'd even be, but here we are this, many years later, and so much has changed. You know, they referenced that they would never wanna ever stop doing it, and, here we are. They they stopped doing it. But they morphed into something new. Right? So, and who's knows what is going to to come is yet to come. Yeah. So, so really exciting.

Yeah. So that was from twenty seventeen. That's, seven years ago. And, they were, yeah, they were promoting season three. And, and if you recall, season three is in the winter. It's the first one they do in the winter. So, yeah. What did you think of that, Matt?
