That fresh produce stand there, that's a beauty. Speaker 1
It's thirsty Thursday, and that means we are once again hanging out at the produce stand, a podcast paying tribute to everything in the universe. Now I know what you're thinking. There are many other Lotte Kennedy podcasts out there, but this one is about to kick out the jams. I'm Al, your host. And joining me in the room as always is lovely Tanya, And not quite online yet, but he will join us soon, is Squirrely Matt. And Victor, he's still down in Minnequin on his vacation. I'm sure he'll have some McMurray like stories when he comes back. So looking forward to having him back hopefully next week. But joining us, this week, he's born and raised in Edmonton, father of two, husband of one. He works at a truck body manufacturing plant, a diehard Oilers fan, and music lover. Please join me in making some noise for Jay. Wondrous. Oh my god. Speaker 0
I regret nothing. Speaker 1
Welcome back to the Produs and Jay. Speaker 0
Glad to be back, guys. Good to see you guys again. Speaker 1
Yes. And, you know what? I'm so happy to have you here, because, the last time you were on, you may not you may remember I really botched your intro. And and and the reason why was because that same day, that morning, we had interviewed Jared Keeso. Yeah. And I was a little all over the place. And then when it came time for your episode that night, I I I dropped the ball. And and I apologize to you afterwards. So, and you were very gracious in accepting my apology, but I wanted to make sure this time I got your intro right. Speaker 0
Fantastic. Thank you very much. No. I can't blame you for being frazzled after that one. Speaker 1
Yeah. It was it was Speaker 2
And not and you wouldn't been able to share that information on you. Speaker 1
Exactly. No. That night, I just sounded like an idiot, and, and the and I could only apologize for it after the interview came out. Everyone does even more because they're sharing the music that they like and talking about why they like it, and it's a it's a very interesting episode. So that's what we're gonna do, but with a Letterkenny spin here. We're going to have, Jay, you, you've from the whole series, seasons one through twelve. From the whole series, seasons one through twelve, and you're going to share that with us. Tonight, we're gonna listen to the music. We're gonna have some fun, and we're gonna talk about it. We're just gonna sit here and talk about it. Now does that sound good to you? Yeah. Okay. So, if I'm,
Speaker 1
I far reminisced. And we posted a picture online and and people got Mike
Speaker 2
smell no, January. It was end of January.
Speaker 2
my smell, from COVID and my taste. But over the last, like, three days, I've just had this I smell burnt toast. Of burnt toast. I'm like The hair to
Speaker 1
our our helicopter.
Speaker 2
No. We don't have
Speaker 1
a helicopter. Every year around this time, the town, sprays the area with for for, mosquitoes. So helicopter that's, nearby. Yeah. Because we live,
Speaker 2
essentially, in a marsh. Yeah. Yeah. The pellets are dropped in in our marsh. Yeah. Yeah. The pellets are dropped in in our marsh, marsh. Yeah. The pellets are dropped in in our marsh, marsh. Yeah. The pellets are dropped in in our marsh, nearby it, treats that and, tries to to, like, you can't go back in that area at all.
Speaker 1
The helicopter just hovers over the neighborhood, like, really, really low, like, just grazing the treetops. It's really cool actually.
Speaker 2
Actually very cool. Yeah. And, and how they do the the the the bench like, how they go around and yeah. It's interesting to watch. Anyway, so that was, that was the
Speaker 1
and and you've literally came in and heard us play the first song ever. I just finished talking about this, actually. The first song we've done in three years. So how did we sound? Be be kind. App formerly known as Twitter, but I thought it
Speaker 3
sounded pretty tight. And I know this,
Speaker 1
this surprise? Well, you know, I crashed your party yesterday because I heard the royal pains were, by the way, who
Speaker 3
who do we have here? Your party yesterday because I heard the
Speaker 4
royal pains were, by
Speaker 3
the way, who who do we have here? Okay. I know Tanya. Oh, okay. Let me introduce you.
Speaker 1
This is Jay, our buddy from Edmonton. He's, he's one of our listeners, and he's joined us tonight because he's going
Speaker 3
woah. Okay. We'll get to that in a minute. But, okay. So his name is Jay. Jay Jay looks a lot like Bingo Bob Ouellette. Am I right? What? Not yeah. Yeah. A little bit. A little bit. Jay, you may Am I right?
Speaker 1
what? Not yeah. Yeah. A little bit.
Speaker 1
Jay, you may not know who Bingo Bob is. He's he's like a radio personality here in Toronto. But so, of course, Mike brings him up.
Speaker 3
Yeah. Well, you know, and he's also sleeping on my couch around the corner. So Listen.
Speaker 1
Oh, you should invite him on.
Speaker 3
Alright. I don't wanna crash the party for too long, but I did, find out there was a Royal Pains reunion last night, so I went out to check it out. And you did sound great.
Speaker 4
Oh, thank you. This is
Speaker 3
how big a supporter I am of yours, Al. I just wanna re reiterate that. Appreciate
Speaker 1
you, Mike. Yeah.
Speaker 3
And it wasn't long ago, even though, Tanya faked a pink eye, I think, but
Speaker 2
Faked it. I wish.
Speaker 3
It wasn't long ago that I had, Victor, Matt, Tanya via Zoom, and you, Alan, the, TMDS studio here.
Speaker 1
Matt's gonna be bummed that he missed you. He he's gonna join us in a little bit, but go on.
Speaker 3
Okay. Well, you guys were here December twenty twenty three, and we did a full episode. Like, even though I don't really care, I don't have great fondness for Letterkenny or Shorzy even though I've taken a couple of runs at it. But still, I devoted an entire episode of Toronto Mike Yes. You did. To the produce stand.
Speaker 1
And by the way, Ywayze Gord is on the livestream right now, and he says, hey. Nice surprise guest. He says, hi.
Speaker 3
Well, I love that man, and he knows it too. And, let Tom know Mhmm. The better half that I do have his, Pamela Wall and Cat book.
Speaker 3
I just wanna put that out there. Okay. So December twenty twenty three. Yeah. Yeah. I like it really inside. Okay. You know that. But December twenty twenty three, episode fourteen o one was all about the produce stand and Letterkenny and Shorzy, and you guys got lasagna, and it was fresh craft beer for everybody, and there were measuring tapes. Like, this happened in December. Right? It
Speaker 3
Okay. And as discussed many times on Toronto, Mike, your podcast journey
Speaker 3
Essentially begins with a visit to this very basement I'm in right now. You are
Speaker 1
the originator. You are the podfather as much as our my as my our d gens say, call me podfather. I defer to you. Yes.
Speaker 3
Okay. So your podcast journey starts here Yes. And you see how the Toronto Mike sausage gets made, and then you start to make your own sausage.
Speaker 3
Yeah. And then you see the TMU, the Toronto Mike Universe.
Speaker 1
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3
And the FOTMs, and then you're like, oh, I can do that with d gens and a Discord server. And, like, all along Mhmm. I'm flattered. Oh, and
Speaker 1
the livestream too. Like, this this was your livestream first, and now it's a we're sharing it.
Speaker 3
Yeah. Right. Okay. Oh, look. That's live dot torontomite dot com. Hey, Ian. Let's have that for the d gens. Okay. So all along the way, I'm supportive. I'm having you on my show.
Speaker 1
Yep. Yeah. Thank you.
Speaker 3
Yeah. This is this is where I'm building up to tell you that you've gone too far. What? Okay.
Speaker 1
What are you talking about?
Speaker 3
You've gone too far. I'm actually in, you know, y y z gord, who should be y y z gord, will tell you. I don't get pissed. I'm actually pissed right now, and I'm sorry, Tanya. You have to witness this because you're lovely. Okay? But, Al, I'm pissed off. What? And I've I've been keeping it bottled up, and then it simmers and then it leaks out in passive aggressive ways.
Speaker 1
Why why would you possibly be pissed?
Speaker 3
Why? Because you're stealing
Speaker 3
My kick out the jams.
Speaker 1
Oh, come on, Mike.
Speaker 3
Like, where did you get tell the listenership. Tell the d gens where you got the idea for Kick Out the Jam.
Speaker 1
I well, I got it from you, and I've I've just finished it before you joined us. I've finished it. I didn't okay. We stood on your front stoop, and we talked about this already. I we had this conversation last week, and I I I I begged I asked your permission.
Speaker 3
Well, you did beg, but that was another story. But I'm it's one thing to hear in principle, like, oh, we're gonna kick out jams. And then to hear you promote it, because I heard a clip of you promoting it. And is that that's this episode, like, Al? Not Al. You're Al. Jay from Edmonton. Edmonton Al.
Speaker 1
By the way, Jay, did you know that Mike's, wife is from Edmonton? He whenever he has somebody on his podcast from Edmonton, he always has to tell him about this.
Speaker 3
Jay, do you know Matt Layden?
Speaker 0
I do not. No. Sorry.
Speaker 3
Okay. Well, Jay, you're here to kick out the jams.
Speaker 0
I don't know now. I don't wanna get I don't wanna get sued here. Is this, I
Speaker 3
got a Lauren Honickman on speed dial. I'm here. I don't wanna crash the party.
Speaker 1
You don't need to call your lawyer. Lauren Lauren doesn't need to be brought into this. Mike, is this a work or a shoot? What is this? I don't I can't tell the difference.
Speaker 3
Even know what those do I look like Stu Stone? I don't know what those words mean. Okay? I'm here to tell you I'm pissed off because you this is a bridge too far. It's one thing to just rip off this part, this part, this part. I'm gonna replicate this. Kicking out the jams, that's my baby. You're kicking out the jams. You know, Mike I'm pissed.
Speaker 1
Look. I I I I I I'm sorry, but, you know, you didn't invent the whole playing music on podcast thing. Right? Like, that that's been been it's been going on for a while now.
Speaker 3
But why don't you call it kick playing music on podcasts?
Speaker 1
Because I even got I even got this going here. Mike's turning red.
Speaker 3
Okay. I listen. I again, I understand you've got a guest from Edmonton. Your beautiful wife is there. There's stuff going on for the the degens. I'm just here to say I'm pissed off. But, I mean, we spoke last week on this on your
Speaker 2
Victor and him would have went ahead.
Speaker 1
Yeah. I don't know. I don't know how the I think Victor would have just sat there silently and maybe even, like anyway, Jay it's,
Speaker 0
it's, it's, good to hear that it was all a shoot.
Speaker 0
never get those two things straightened out, workers' shoots. So that's
Speaker 1
a shoot when it's, like yeah. Okay. Yeah. I can never get to hear that it was all a shoot. It's a yeah. I I never I can never get those two things straightened out. Workers shoot. So that's a shoot when it's, like yeah. Okay. And work is when it's true. Yeah. Alright. Good to know.
Speaker 0
So now my week is
Speaker 1
Okay. And work is
Speaker 0
Yeah. Alright. Good to know. So, no, my week was pretty busy coming off kind of last week was more busy, I guess, back to back. Let her, Kenny, present Let kind
Speaker 1
despite It got almost as tense as as this little meeting we had with Mike just a little while ago. It was a very spirited after party conversation. If you haven't heard it, you should. This week, our I'm gonna ask you, first of all, how did you put this list together? I'm gonna ask you, a it? Yeah. So, I to it. We'll listen
Speaker 0
emotional to watch because, like, my favorite scenes of Leonard Denney,
Speaker 1
but, yeah, it's a great song. Now did did you, look up, 's
Speaker 0
almost a hundred percent. Oh, wow. That and, I'm thinking that's almost a hundred percent, and
Speaker 1
the so not all are are Canadian. I think we're gonna learn about that here too that, he does like like, he he he he doesn't just listen to Canadian music, but, that definitely a great pick. Excuse me. Let's see here. I'll just play the whole damn thing. It's it's a great song. Yeah. Sorry about that. I I was trying to get the levels because I I wanna make sure we could hear Jay over the music. So I'm gonna do something different here for the second one. So here's your your number nine pick. Here we go. Oh, that's not what I wanted to do. Come on. Number nine pick is open with Windows Media Player. There we go. I love this song. That is Do It, Try It by m eighty three. I love that song. It's it sounds so nice on especially in the headphones. I hope it's sounding good in in or on your end. So why'd you pick this one?
Speaker 0
Well, it's obviously, that song's played during the really long montage that starts with the day beers dancing outside of Modine's and ends with the entire crew running into
Speaker 1
Oh, that's right. Yeah. This is the that's
Speaker 0
all LD Dirks there.
Speaker 0
I I always think it's like this that song bridges that entire show where it's literally starts playing right after McMurray and and Mrs. McMurray are talking about the little golf clap with his manhood brushing off his thighs.
Speaker 0
And then and then Edmondson may be the most intense scene of the entire show. So it's like, it's just in the hilarious way that they probably one of the more iconic montages
Speaker 1
on Letterkenny. Yeah
Speaker 2
kenny is a musical. Let's just say that. Right? Like, the way
Speaker 1
trying to find here, more stuff on on this band on Wikipedia. Can can't find Do It, Try It. It's almost like he picked a an obscure track from their, library too. Which one was the one you mentioned that might most people
Speaker 0
Like pretty hard hip hop song. So
Speaker 0
I just kind of appreciated the, like, the juxtaposition, I guess, of that song with what I thought that show might be about.
Speaker 0
And it's just it it stayed that way for twelve seasons.
Speaker 1
It absolutely did. Yeah. You're right. It's a hard hitting, hip hop. Do you know anything about this band, this band or group called, Pigeonhole?
Speaker 0
No. I had not heard about this band before letter Kenny.
Speaker 1
Mhmm. Now they're they are Canadian from Victoria, BC, a duo from they they started for in the in two thousand. So they they've been around a bit, but, like, they've got a Myspace and SoundCloud page. That's all they've been around. So,
Speaker 0
I used to be really big into hip hop in the nineties, so I kinda covered those bases too. Right. But that's that's about it.
Speaker 1
pretty, pretty loose.
Speaker 0
I'm I'm I'm ready to jump into just That's about the only thing that I really don't listen to. How tough is that
Speaker 1
in Edmonton? Because let me tell you, I was just in Calgary a few weeks ago Yeah. And I got my I got my fill. Yeah. No. It's that's a Calgary thing. Yeah. That's not No
Speaker 1
it's hard to get a a gig in Toronto anymore because there are fewer venues, but still the same number of bands. But, like, we we play play, like, an hour north of the city, and and it's a pretty good scene up there.
Speaker 0
Outside of like, there's not much outside of Edmonton either. Like, the nearest larger city would be Calgary. So
Speaker 0
a lot going on for live music in my neck of the woods. Mhmm. We get a lot of tours from, like, the big artists, but we don't see a lot of local.
Speaker 1
Right. Alright. Let's, listen to your number seven. I love this one. I mean, they're they're all great picks, but, yeah. This one here is a lot of fun too.
Speaker 5
I'm a big girl, man. I'm a big girl, man. That's not that's not what I want. I'm a big girl, man. I love
Speaker 5
a big girl, man. I'm a big girl, man. That's not that's not what I want. I'm a big girl, man. I'm a big girl, man. I'm a big girl, man. That's not that's not food
Speaker 1
Alright. That is DJ Donna Summer with such language. Okay. What what part of Letterkenny's is this from?
Speaker 0
So it's the song that plays when Stewart comes home from the failed rave at the egg hole.
Speaker 0
And he commits to making l Letterkenny the biggest mad pound. Mhmm. I I picked this song, and this is kind of a personal anecdote, but I was my my wife overheard it while I was watching this episode. Yeah. -And she doesn't like Letterkenny. She hasn't ever expressed much of an interest in watching it.
Speaker 0
-But she comes into the room, and
Speaker 1
him on Wikipedia. He looks like an interesting guy. Yeah. Yeah. And so, this is from a a album called Panther best Speaker 1
in his, record collection or or whatever, hard drive. Yeah. Into I think when you fade to black, you wanna you wanna leave somebody with an Jason is fair game. Speaker 2
But you have to appreciate Sundance. Right? You both do. I appreciate the I Speaker 1
appreciate the that they've succeeded in in their That was the best episode ever because Speaker 3
OCM, doing a little We are all family. OCM by Susan Aglucar. Talk about this pick, Jay. Other strong, I'm a star. Speaker 1
We are all family. OCM by Susan Aglucar. Talk about this pick, Jay. Other strong, I Speaker 0
Sus it's just another nice slice of Canadiana in a show littered with it and it's like the inclusion of this song was just perfect for the scene And then it actually kinda ended up working, and then they did it again the next time the Irish played. So I thought that was that was even better when they doubled down on it. Speaker 1
I'm a big fan of this song. I remember when it was first out in ninety five. It was it got heavy, airplay on on, on much music. So and and back then so this is from nineteen ninety five, and you like you said, Jay, season seven episode five, Susan Aglukar. She's from Churchill, Manitoba. So we have, our first Manitoba artist here. But, I mean, this song was was pretty big in in in Canada. Right? It it I'm looking at the Wikipedia here, and it says, reached number three in Canada top singles, number one in Canada adult contemporary, and the country charts too. It reached number one in Canada. It didn't doesn't look like it charted anywhere else in the world, but it's because it was it was like you said, it's kind of a genuinely Canadian song or or specifically Canadian song, but, I love it. I I always did. And she got, like, a lot of, you know, recognition and a lot of kudos, because of I think that was, like, the first time we saw kinda indigenous representation on the pop charts that wasn't, you know, what's her name? Buffy. Right? Mhmm. So, yeah, I I love this pic. Matt, welcome. Speaker 4
Hey, guys. Sorry I'm late. Speaker 1
You know, you have no idea what you missed. Speaker 1
Don't. I mean, it was for a good reason. Speaker 4
Apologize. I'm not gonna apologize. Don't don't apologize. I wish I could have been here. It was just a crazy day. Speaker 4
But I definitely wanted to hang out and have a drink with my old man Speaker 4
Before I came and joined you, Deejens. Speaker 1
So Did I explain off the top why Matt couldn't join us? I can't remember now. Speaker 1
I hope so. Okay. Good. Speaker 1
But yeah. So, you this is, Jay's number six pick. So, OCM, what do you think of this song? Speaker 4
was a great one to join. Mhmm. It made me happy right away. You saw me getting into it. I mean, I'm I'm I'm am I wildly familiar with the background, everything about it? No. But am I aware this is Canadiana at its finest? Absolutely. So, yeah, it was felt like a very it's like my entry entrance music today, and I'm okay with that. So I'll take it. It's funny before, as I as I was off just hanging out with my my old man having a drink, he was telling me some story. I'm going completely off bar here, but Speaker 4
felt relevant. Mhmm. My dad was XRCMP, and he was telling some story how one time he actually almost got fired, because he and a bunch of friends played a joke where, and why this is relevant to everything is a friend of his used to play for the junior team for the Montreal Canadians. Mhmm. Lyle Carter was his name. He played for a Fuel Gene. But one of the guys on his team was Blake Ball, who was in Slap Shot. Speaker 4
He played an uncredited character named Gilmore Tuttle. Anyways, they had some little what's that? Speaker 0
He's one of the goons that they Is that that the team brings in to fight the Chiefs. Speaker 4
You got it. So and he's a big dude. So there was a whole joke at the the time where my dad got asked to come in and fake arrest, Blake Ball. And Blake was in on it, and everybody always tell him this whole story how there's, like, you you gotta be careful because he didn't know who was in on and who wasn't in on it. And there was a couple guys in the team at the time who were highly protective over their own players, and they're my dad was warned to be, you know, if they start getting out of hand, we'll jump in and reveal the joke because they might try to stop you. Speaker 1
And It's funny you bring So it Speaker 4
was all. Right? It was a whole ordeal. And then I guess what happened was after they took him away or my dad took the guy away and put him in his car, he found out the GM was on the phone with the league Mhmm. Saying, hey. Just a heads up. One of our players just got arrested. Speaker 0
dad's like, woah. Woah. Woah. Woah. Woah. Hold on. Speaker 4
This is all a joke. We're just kidding. But anyways, because we because we were talking he was asking about the podcast, and and he asked if we covered Shorzi yet. I said, of course, we covered Shorzi. Yeah. And that's what led us to Slap Shot and and Down the Path. So and it was it was a fun little story he just shared with me, which I hadn't heard before. Speaker 2
And, see, sometimes jokes go too far. Speaker 4
Matt, wait till you listen wait till you listen take away your Speaker 1
Wait till you listen back to this episode tomorrow or whenever you will. For slow Speaker 4
Oh, cool. Yeah. Fucking love it, man. It's a whale of a shirt. I'm in love Speaker 0
a up on on, on, Wikipedia. I'm looking them up on on, on, Speaker 0
I'm looking them Speaker 1
they're they're they're they're they're they're Speaker 1
is over twenty four. Yeah. Yeah. And they're man Speaker 4
Toronto based bands, aren't they? Yeah. Yep. And lots of, like, maybe Speaker 0
have spun out of this band might even be more, Speaker 0
it it plays for the Speaker 3
for sure. So yeah. This is Speaker 1
just one of those Speaker 0
songs, like you said earlier, Al, where I'm sure Kiso heard this song and then just put it in his pocket. Like Yeah. That's gonna be the finale or that's gonna be, Speaker 4
on nonetheless. I'm really excited to see what's next. Speaker 4
So late to the party. I missed all the beginning. I'm really mad now. Speaker 1
Just looking at peak chart positions here for Broken Social Scene, let's see. Like, they're they they didn't the first two albums didn't chart. In twenty ten, Forgiveness rock record made it to number one in Canada, and Hug of Thunder, which is this album, made it to as high as fourteen. And then, like, in the US, it it it did make, like, thirty four and and ninety six, respectively. So, yeah, I mean, they're they're well, they're not a mainstream band, but, man, they sound they sound amazing. Like, they sound really, really good. Great great pick. Speaker 0
And they're a fantastic live band. Speaker 1
Yeah. I mean that. Yeah. I don't know like, I didn't know a lot about them before this, but you say you're you're you've been a fan, like a lifelong fan? Speaker 0
Yep. For a long time. I'm surprised that their second album didn't chart in Canada because that one has got a lot of like, the it it was not frequently played on much music, but you would have seen it there for sure. Speaker 1
Well, it was certified gold, but just just no charting, in in two thousand two. So I'm wondering what maybe is it that ugly transition period between pirated music and streaming. You know what I mean? But I think maybe Sure. It it probably didn't help them. Speaker 4
And I'm willing to bet, and and maybe you can confirm this, Jay. Like, whenever these guys perform, it's you never know what you're gonna get. Right? Because there's so many and so many players dancing in and out of the group. This is like the collective. Speaker 4
So at any given concert, you could have different people there doing different songs and different riffs and runs and fun and, like, they're they're probably experiences, which have you see have you sorry. Did you say you'd seen them live? Yeah. Speaker 0
I've seen them a couple of times. Yeah. Amazing. If if you've ever seen Arcade Fire live, it's very similar where it's just there's so many people Yeah. And they can I was gonna guess that? Cool instruments, and it's it's amazing. Speaker 1
Very cool. I wouldn't mind seeing Arcade Fire live. But, yeah, that would be a good one. But this one too now. Now that I'm, I know about them, I I would totally go see them live. Alright. Let's see your let's listen to your number four pick here. Spool it up. May have to speak quickly about this one. Because as punk songs go, it's short just like Speaker 1
Alright. This is Hibernation by Blood on the Wall. Talk about talk about these guys, Jay. Speaker 0
The band is it it's they're almost as obscure as Relationzer from song ten, like thirteen hundred, fourteen hundred monthly listeners on Spotify. Speaker 0
So this is back to Tanya's point. Like, where do they where did he find these tunes? Like, it's it's amazing. This song is just I I love this episode, and I think that's what colors it for me. It's when the boys in the US and Canadian military take on Elmo, Adrianas, Rensburg, Vancouver then for the first time. Speaker 1
Right. Well done. Yes. Speaker 0
That that fight is so stupid, and I love it. Like, there's elbow drops and Right. Where they squirt me down running with a stool and and and forced chokes by Stewart. Like, it's it's it's utterly ridiculous, but it's just too too much fun. Speaker 1
Amazing. This is from two thousand eight, and like you said, season nine, episode one. The album is called Lifers, and this is a New York band. New York, New York, USA. Point And predictably. You can't have a punk song that's more than two and a half minutes. That's just not right. I don't think anyone could sustain Speaker 4
of energy for more than two and a half minutes. Right. They even have to they have to Speaker 1
stretch it out with Speaker 1
I'm not familiar with them. I'm not, Speaker 4
not I I'm familiar with them, but not, I would say an active listener, but that song is just fire. Like, that then Speaker 2
in her cleaning the house playlist for absolutely, on my playlist. This would Speaker 1
be in her cleaning the house playlist for sure. Yeah. Not not I'm I'm Speaker 4
Al right now, kind of. No. No. No. This is my Not not Speaker 4
We were watching Deadpool two yesterday. I made a sword and hat reference, and now I'm it's all I'm hearing in my head. Speaker 1
So before Letterkenny, were you, aware of Joel or this song? Speaker 0
Not this song, but, yes, yes, Joel for sure. Speaker 1
Yeah. He's definitely kinda well known kind of Canadian songwriter for sure. But, I was only familiar with his name, didn't know of any songs, and definitely didn't know this song. But as soon as it was used in that scene in Letterkenny, it it shot up to being one of my favorite songs from Letterkenny. So I love this pick. What about you? Speaker 2
Oh, yeah. It's just a fun poppy, like, just makes puts slaps a smile on your face. Speaker 1
Like, it's it's a little too quirky for my band to do it, sadly, because I would love to perform this one live because, but it's it's got a lot of, anyway, quirk to it. What about you, Matt? Were you familiar with Joel Plaskett? Or Speaker 4
By name, not by music, but this song. Speaker 1
Fellow Nova Scotian. Speaker 4
Yeah. Definitely I'm definitely familiar with the name, not overly familiar with the music. Yeah Speaker 1
's and the people. Love Blue Nose. Yeah. We have a, fishing crate. Speaker 4
So when we were there with the kids years ago and Jen, we found it in a thrift shop there and bought it. And it was a weird scene. People were laugh we were literally, like, walking through the streets of Lunenburg with this big and it's not small. It's, like, two, Speaker 1
even within Canada. Like, have you Speaker 0
Lunenburg or Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Speaker 1
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah Speaker 0
one that I've been to. Is the one that I've been to. Is Speaker 4
you've been to? I Speaker 0
years ago. Denmark. Nice. I thought that was pretty cool. We went for Speaker 3
the world championship hockey Speaker 0
So Oh, yeah. I remember telling us about that. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah that Speaker 1
think, you know, I Speaker 1
I Such a beautiful, beautiful song. By harmo harmonium. Speaker 0
Thanks for thanks for taking the name of that one. Speaker 1
You're welcome. Talk about it. Speaker 0
I was gonna say I didn't wanna say the title of that song because to steal the line from Wayne, je paufronil c'est, m'aw vey. Speaker 0
So it's, obviously, that's the song that plays after the litigating crew helped the the the French Hicks there take out the Laval d gens. Mhmm. So much goes on during that scene. And like we were talking for all of this, it's the music sets the tone. It's obviously a song in French. They're the scene is in Quebec. It just kind of like perfectly sets up what's going on there. And it's you see Darian and and Nick share a dance, and and Darian's super happy. And we don't see that a lot. Katie and and Tiddy Bank pair up. Speaker 0
Tiddy Bank. And then I thought this scene was it's kinda one of the most genuine scenes in the whole series, is Wayne, wallflower, just kind of whoops back against the wall, watching what's going on. JB and Tyson see him over there, and they bring him some shots and get him involved. And it kinda leads to him meeting Marie Fred after her kinda hero entrance. And he doesn't even slow down to take part in the fight on his way to meet for the first Speaker 1
time. And he just walks through the mayhem Speaker 0
and Yeah. Yeah, he was just perfect and the song is awesome. I would have obviously have never heard that song before Letterkenny, and it's just perfectly played, perfectly timed. Speaker 1
Agreed. Matt, what do you think of this pick? Is this your new favorite pick? Speaker 4
No. Funny. No. It's a great tune. No. Yeah. Speaker 3
You sound awesome. Speaker 2
Like animal. Find me. Speaker 4
Find me. That's fair. No. Awesome. Called it again. She's like, hands down, this montage is the best storytelling letter Kenny ever did. And I I actually think that's a very fair statement. Speaker 4
This is one of those times where I just need to run the music and play the scene, and it just came together beautifully. Great choice. Speaker 4
Like, that's that's really it's it's a fantastic choice. Nothing I would have ever heard outside of this show, but I'm glad I was exposed to this and get to enjoy this on the regular now. Speaker 2
I challenge your wife not to like this Speaker 1
It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a It's a to and to San Francisco to play these shows to an American audience, and there's their way to break to try to break into the US. And they to an American audience. And there's there's their way to break to try to break into the US, and they weren't sure whether they would be accepted because they're a band that doesn't, you know, sing in English. Anyway, it's it's only a half hour, doc, another one of these bands. It's like there's, like, in national Speaker 1
for the first TPA. Speaker 1
when you find out the music that they they love. Right? In this case, it when you find out the music that they they love. Right? In this case, it isn't, you know, your top ten favorite songs, but it is your top ten favorite Letterkenny songs. And I think we learned a little bit more about you today. So appreciate you volunteering for being the first. I hope to do this again with other degens. I am, going to probably restrict it those so that we're not always playing the same songs over and over. I'm gonna keep a, like, a spreadsheet. Daniel, don't get too excited. And I'm gonna ask if anyone wants to do this, and I'm gonna challenge them to try to pick different songs and and talk about different songs. Speaker 4
We should allow, like, two crossovers. Speaker 1
Yeah. I think yeah. Yeah. We shouldn't be cruel about it. Yeah. Allow maybe one or two. But for the most part, we wanna hear, you know, of all the different music. Because, again, another strength of this show is the music, and we wanna celebrate that. Right? Tanya. Speaker 2
Jay, you brought so much so much insight. Again, I love the deep dives, and music is such a big part of Letterkenny and the whole universe. You this was fantastic. Really well done. Thank you for bringing all the notes and sharing, what you felt about all the the music and and how, you you you made me look at things in a different way, and I always love that and appreciate that. So thank you so much. Alan, you should really think about renaming, what this night is. Because even if it's a joke, it's still not nice. So, maybe we can call it something else. Maybe something universe related, that would be great. Speaker 1
Matt's confused right now. Speaker 2
And I I just again, I think back Speaker 2
I I think back to, Jared Keeso. And, like, wow. Like, dude has, like, a huge music, collection. Speaker 2
And even in some of those songs, I'm like, I can almost hear him singing that song. Like, his voice and what his Oh. His he could probably pull off. Speaker 2
I'm I'm feeling like he's the the trifecta of, like, music Speaker 1
and Triple threat. You think he can sing? I don't know. I mean, he can he can drum, but I don't know. Speaker 2
I wonder if he could dance. He Speaker 1
can he can sway with his with his thumb sucked in the loop of his jeans. He can sway. I don't know if he can anyway, Tobias on the livestream says he enjoyed it. Thank you, Tobias, for listening. Yeah. Matt, what about you? Speaker 4
Yeah. So I'll base my comments on half I'm not gonna Speaker 0
more difficult than you would think, potentially. Like, I I I looked at this list all day today, and I I was I can't believe I left this off the list. I can't believe I don't have that on there. Yeah. So you're second guessing yourself the whole time, but like I said, just kick it off. I tried to pick ones that maybe fit the mood and the show and some of the other songs that I love and might might even listen to more than some of the ones on this list. I might not remember where they came from. Speaker 0
what I mean? Like, that's a great song. I learned about it through Letterkenny, but do I remember the exact scene in the show where it came from? Maybe not. So it's a lot of fun to put this together, and I I did the research because I didn't wanna fall off my face because I wanted you guys to be able to keep doing this with other people because I think this is a great idea. Speaker 1
Yeah. Awesome. Yeah. I I I'm glad I thought of it. Speaker 0
as far as I know, you did. Speaker 1
I'm glad I'm glad Thanks, Mike. This completely original idea that no one has ever done Speaker 2
before. To Toronto, Mike. Thank you for for Do? Tanya's really working. Toronto. This is Speaker 1
It was a shoot or Speaker 3
a work. Which one Speaker 0
I said it wrong. So it the the the work is fake, and the shoot is real. Speaker 1
Oh, interesting. Speaker 0
I got corrected in the chat by by Jeff, so I was wrong when I said that earlier. Speaker 1
Alright. And you know what? Thank you for being the guinea pig because I also got to iron out some of the, the way this thing was gonna flow. Apologies. That first song was kind of a write off because I was trying to do it one way. And but now that I know how we're gonna do it from here on end, it's gonna be much smoother. So once again, thank you for being the guinea pig. And I'm gonna play us off here. Speaker 1
Go ahead. It's fucking Speaker 2
in bad weather. That first Speaker 4
It sounds like I missed the shit show at Speaker 1
the beginning. Yeah. Speaker 4
I'm okay with, guys. It's a bit of Speaker 1
a shit show. Anyway, I'm gonna play us off here with this song, that, you know, we all like, and I've been using it as our closing song now for the last few episodes. So here we go, Your Man by Joji. Speaker 2
Oh, this is my top. Speaker 1
Yeah. But this one this is a a Shorzy song, I think. Speaker 2
I know. So awesome. I think I play this daily now. Speaker 1
Yeah. I know you do. Yeah. You really love this Speaker 3
song. Have you ever loved? Would you go again? Don't be down when it's Speaker 1
Alright. And that's all we have for this episode. Next week, we're gonna put a wrap on the Letter Kenny Presents comedy tour by having a bunch of our listeners on who attended the shows to talk about it. It should be a great time. I think Jay's coming back for that, and a bunch of our other will join us. If you'd like to support the podcast, become a patron or tell a friend. Also, follow us on most social media outlets at prodosampod. Thank you for listening. And now we're going to discuss tonight's picks with the d gens and the after party. On behalf of Jay, Tanya, Matt, and myself, thank you for listening. Have a great week.
