It's Taco Tuesday. And we are once again, hang out of the protests and podcast covering everything in that universe. Now, I know what you're thinking there are many other Letterkenny podcasts out there, but this one never misses the Mark. I am Al your host and joining me in the room. As is always a lovely tanyon online. We have squirrely match and the villain is Victor and joining us this week. He's a musician, he's an actor. He's a voiceover actor. He's been on so many shows, such as The Devout, Smallville Battlestar Galactica, The Flash Supernatural Arrow, but we know and love him as Mark Michaels on Shore. Z, please join me in making some noise for Ryan McDonagh. My dress. Oh my God word I regret nothing. Welcome to the produce. Dan Ryan I almost called you Mark. Yes happening yes. Miss. it already. I am gonna set the stage here because Victor's background right now. Is, is, is Ryan in Smallville? I am assuming it was, yeah, yeah, yeah, change my character. A little bit. I was Kind of semi normal-looking and then I thought I might have died and then came back with one eye and a great big scar across my face. Your slicked-back hair looking very menacing. I have had that look before when I had like a cheap pair of like sunglasses and one of the lenses popped out and then I only have you know the one side that's a yes dented its kind of banville initial like it yeah they told him I had for doing the right thing. Yeah they were we spent a good portion of a day trying to figure out that the idea the costume there Changed everything. I got to work with Pam Grier then to so that was pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah, that's it. It's a great show. I can tell you and I watched the entire Series. So he was Amanda Waller. If I recall, she was Min Waller than we could chew show off. All right. Let us get to a. Were you speaking to us from Ryan right now? I am in just outside Toronto and Thornhill. Only enthrone him. Okay, your local? Yeah, not too far. I am local. Now I now for a long time was living in Vancouver. Okay. Where are you originally from first from Nova Scotia? Oh Scotia. Okay. Hapless Valley. Yeah, my whole family is my whole family's alone. Apples Valley really whereabouts, spread out across my parents are in Kentville, but like, I have a lot of family in Bridgetown. We have a cottage on a lake, just north of Bridgetown, a bit there. Bridgetown was one of the coldest Arenas I would ever played in my whole life. You know the Bridgestone Arena. Yeah. Oh man, that is a cold. Drink some cold drink. Yeah. Yeah. So you have a new one now but now I think it's the same thing. It's there forever. Yeah, nothing's changed but yeah, I know the Annapolis Valley very well. Well, that's amazing. So you're born and raised in Nova Scotia. Well, how old were you when you moved from there? I was. 18. So, I was in, I was in grade 12 just about to graduate and I got, this was essentially, like a background role kind of on k-19, the Widowmaker. Oh yes, I saw it. I saw that credit. Yeah, I am actually on the back cover of only the VHS, really, not the DVD, but on the VHS, you see me on the back cover? It's pretty, I will do. We need to explain to the younger listeners, what our VHS, probably? Yeah. Right. So they didn't know what to do. Tang what? Yeah, it's true so good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was directed by Kathryn. Bigelow was Harrison Ford Lee nice, and there's a bunch of great. People's Peter sarsgaard. That's a big movie for it. To be your first. Yeah, but it was, you know, it was kind of like background, but I was getting the bug and it was such a huge budget, like, hmm, I don't know if I have worked on anything. Have a budget ever since bright and rumors and shot in Halifax. They did do some portions in believe Winnipeg. Yeah. I think they did go to Russia to, but I was just in the Halifax portions, and they gave me a line at one point so that kind of like bump me up a little bit and as a Russian Submariner and receiving a pill and saying thank you. So it was good though but it's spanned throughout. A lot of Junes we were writing exams and stuff in grade 12 and then I was getting the bug. I had to talk to my principal on certain teachers. Like look this is something I love and this is all I got to say is its Harrison Ford. Sorry, I am not sorry. We have the same birthday. Yeah, we all really maybe we can share cake on so. Wow, now that was just for him. You put a little Ryan, he had his own, and he had his like we were all just slaying like slumming it on a submarine that would get pulled out from Halifax Harbour, right to the like, and we'd shift it so that it looked like we're in the middle of the ocean. So we kind of That's cool, different angles. So, and there were so many crews and stuff, but is jumping in and off of yeah. Submarine movies are very claustrophobic. And I have always wondered, I have always wanted to be in one of you ever. So you have spent time inside a real sub then like how yeah we write as it were in there for a while it's so small, but they would you know for the most part they would keep us all above you know just to save space basically but how do you get all that camera equipment down there too right. It was a rigmarole to get it all down. There are lots of handheld stuff but it was, it was, yeah, it was such a great experience of such a cool like I knew who Liam Neeson was at the time, but he wasn't like it was basically Schindler's List and yes Star Wars was about to start coming out. Yeah. And he would just sit in a tire and read a book and like just talk with us. He was so cool so it was a quite expert Harrison. Ford at his own wake Like he was taking kids on helicopter, rides on the weekend, right? He's already the Megastar. Yeah. Yeah. Liam Neeson was on his way, but wasn't quite there yet. Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty cool more. Humble about, I don't know, very nice. Well, quite the first. So after that you must have thought. Well, I am in now like Hollywood here. I come right. Well yeah, I mean I knew I another young guy that went to my high school, his name was Craig, alleged Nick. He was a lead on the show The Listener for a long time. Oh Ron. Oh yeah. It was on CTV for a while and I knew that he was living in Vancouver and I kind of got the bug I don't know how I skipped Toronto but I just went right to the other coast of the ocean. Yeah so I will do it. So yeah I just kind of just winged it and moved out there and made my way slowly got an agent out there and Just slowly started getting small parts and still kind of doing the same thing pretty much now, but right, sure he's been a blessing for sure, I am sure. I got a few things lined up this year. Now next year, it's this year so that's kind of exciting, so uncool. So I think I might have cut you off when you were saying we're your partners from, but is she the reason you're in Toronto then? Well, yeah. We're, we had a baby last March congratulations Lucien. Thank you very much. Thank you very much and being that she was going to be pregnant during a shooting Shores, the her parents live here as well. I have family in Toronto, Areas. So we just decided to she came from Los Angeles. So we were like, okay, well let us go, let us go up there for a little bit, have the baby in Canada, and then we will see. We will see where we're what happens. I am going to spend February down there. Probably a good call made to get a little bit of sugar. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, it's been great. It's been great. And everything too yeah. You settle into that. Okay. Yeah, yeah. He's last the last three nights. He's actually slept, but the, the prior to that he wasn't. It was every two hours. He's teething and then, yeah, other days, it wants to feed. And it's just, yeah, we're, it's kind of trial and error right now. Let us just start taking them to the leaf games and you will be all right. Yeah, you Montreal thin? No, no, no. He's a New Jersey fan. Try to figure that one out. I don't know. Hey, that's my home. Now we're all here in the Toronto area but for some reason he adopted New Jersey back in the broader days, I think well, I wasn't it? That was a pretty good time. It was Scott Stevens. Oh, yeah. And before that you were, you were a Philly fan or Philadelphia? Why was a Ron Hextall? Okay. Okay, and I was in New Jersey Devils fan so those are yeah that was not to be confused with each other but I have always been a leaf. Very disappointed shade, they are they your team, right? They are, yeah, I actually, I was with Terry Ryan when we were in, we were in Montreal of all places, Watch Toronto, get a thump by or get put out basically last year by a Tampa Bay and just being in a Montreal bar watching that trying to ask them for sound. And instead, it's a sports bar, but they're like, no, we got to put on her music look. The dance music in the background. Like come on, I am actually surprised being in Montreal. They didn't they? And knowing you guys really fancy didn't turn the sound up, just, so they could laugh at you all night? I know, I am actually an East Coaster. I know either fall one or two ways. Either seem to go Montreal or they go Boston. Yeah, yeah. I got it. Austin is blasphemy. Yeah, I heard yeah, there's a lot of these fans there too but yeah, Montreal seems to be a popular pick there for sure, but you get Be a connects fan as well since you lived out there and that would be pretty sad as well. It was although 2011 the little span there that was pretty fun with it when the Presidents Trophy few times. And yeah, I was kind of in the mix there. I was actually got locked down when they started rioting after they left, they lost in 2011, how I lost it. That was the high point for Bank. It was crazy actually because I went, I had some friends that worked at the arena and So I mean the playoffs and in June, this was like, August and I went to go see, I think it was going to say was Audioslave but I think it was Soundgarden always nice. It was like Soundgarden Queens of the Stone Age and someone else I want to say Dave Grohl was in it but it wasn't Foo Fighters. But anyway my own flavors anyway, it was a great was great lineup, and they my friend brought us up, and he was like here just going to set up there. Press area upstairs, you can just like hang your feet over, watch the concert, it's great up there. We went up and it looked like, literally all the Press from 2011, just got right up and left, they all their papers were still there, like the Boston Chronicle or whatever. Boston Herald Game notes, were all left. Just sitting there strewn about the 2011 finals. Posters were all Still up no stages. They just said, f*** Abandon Ship. Yeah, we're going to come back in September. Clean it up. But yeah it's pretty funny. Well we felt that way when we visited the Letterkenny sets, things are just kind of left. Yeah, yeah I bet when's the last time you guys were there while we were there in September like the day after season, 12 shoe trapped in the same of the sets were still dressed and, but we got to see the shore Z locker room and everything. That was kind of fun, it was thrilling to see you. Yeah, that was surreal. So little video that, you know, so before going in there was really f****** cool just to see it all together and like, oh, this is where you guys are sitting. And this is the one I was most excited about the toilet. I am like, this is where the, yeah, yeah. And that's a toilet wasn't even there. Yeah, so disappointed. Yeah. Just a little stool. We yeah, they did a great job with that room. We were — like if you stepped on the logo, it was like a big No-No. That's I called that. I am like I saw that happening. Yeah, we even the camera guys. When I go, you know, we should have a pot or something, start putting money into, but yeah, it was, it was really cool, even just being that it was, I kind of started as the coach at the beginning and the that kind of opening scene with the shores of the just to see that kind of see it all. Come to life. You had it made my head the whole time that was actually one of the Mission scenes. So to see all the extras in the hockey guys all dressed up and waiting and became a reality. That was a did such a good job at that room. Okay. The fact that you say you had to audition is going to make my next question, even more pertinent here because before we get to shore Z and all that stuff, one of your other loves is music and if you will allow me to just play something here and then maybe we will get you to comment. On this. Why don't you describe what's happening here? Oh God yeah. Where'd you find that? We went hard in the paint, so I am going to bring this down years ago, 42. So yeah, man this Cysteine shrapnel and it's a two-piece band, Allah, white stripes or Twenty One Pilots or I don't know if I am insulting You by saying any of those, but on guitar is that's me, and he's on drums there. That might be the old boss, man, Cherokee, so that's Jared f****** he's. So I am just looks familiar. It might be, it's very blurry. It's very blurry, but I am pretty sure. And at because there is another assisting shrapnel video. That's about clear. And you can tell its Jared so you're not talking out of school Ryan. We found it, okay? We but anyway, who's your bandmate, and he made you, he made you have to read for the part. What the hell? Now wasn't. It wasn't even like that. All that Jared and this was going on during the pandemic. We were, we were having like weekly conversations and stuff like that and I don't think I am like I said, speaking out of turn here when I say like I got the audition and immediately, I knew what it was, and I was like s***. This is such a great role. Yeah. And I only played like up until about like midget Triple-A. I got a little invite here to one camp and then BlahBlah but unlike Tier 1 high school and Nova Scotia, and so we were like play at a high level but Were wanting, you know, the real like guys who played Pro yeah. Or at least like n-c-double-a tear want something like that. It will level head you hey why'd you got into the coach? Yeah. Yeah. And gotten there. So I was a little bit skeptical as to how serious they were going to take me for it and then, but anyway, I put together a tape a lap endemic where we were doing them all from home and but anyway, I put one together. And I didn't want to, like, I didn't want to call the friend card in, you know, a little bit. Okay. It's been just, hopefully let the work do the talking and, and see where it goes from there, instead of like, hey, look out for the tape. So I did later asked if they want a second one or not. I don't think they did. Actually, I think I just did it once, but I waited a long time, I was one of the first people to be casting believe and it was pretty early. Early. So I had a lot of time between when we started shooting and when I got it and actually, so I probably maybe I did it in like a May or late April. And then I had heard through the grapevine that they were liking the tape, and they had me kind of pinned up, as maybe possibly the guy, was it always going to be Mark Michaels? Yeah, it was coach Michaels at the beginning and I didn't know that he was going into goalie. So that was a bit of a surprise for sure. I thought it was just going to be the coach the whole time that's cool and so, and I played a goalie in another movie Once to before, but I couldn't, believe I was like, oh my God, I am playing goalie again. So but we were three was it was yeah, it's like more of a junior kids. Version. But yeah, it was fun, it was great. And any time you get to, you know, play a sport, you love and do a job, you love? It's, it's a pretty nice bonus. Absolutely. We knew it was coming down the pipe that I was getting really close and then Jared acts called me on my birthday. It was that was July 30 ice, and he said, I believe the exact words were you want to go make the bed? Damn hockey show ever and I said house like sign me up my man since amazing op that's great happy birthday. Dear, how was the best? Yeah. That was one of the best phone calls I have had in memory. So yeah, it was great and then it kind of set up. Okay, shoots in a move from Vancouver. What should we do here? We know we're going to be in Sudbury was not that long and then the baby news came up and everything just life shifted in a big way. So you just recently moved from Vancouver then yeah last year so okay yeah so was for this the resources for a little while I don't I am not fun to visit to it. No it's had to visit but it's busy down there. It was small and yeah for what? Pain for it was like my God, so I am not quite ready yet to leave music because I do want to redeem you a bit. I want to play another video here for you which I think is a second it sounded like a you weren't happy with the previous it's just the quality was a little grainy but this year the quality is different. Now this sounds like it should be on the radio somewhere. It was for a while. Yeah, yeah we did a lot in a short period of time like The Vancouver music scene is just it's changed so much right over. I don't know, even just the last 15 years but taste-wise everything it just. What's it? And what's not? Yeah, so this is TV, heart attack. Nowhere fast, great song man. Sounds amazing. Like it sounds nice. It sounds right down my always sold it. We sold it around and I think it played on him. Something like different TV, shows and movies and licensed it and ice. They actually went so halfway through the band we changed over to a thing which is ironic called actors. Okay, capital letters, and we and that guy right there Art Deco he's in a completely new band called Art Deco. Okay, and he's doing extremely well. Like if you will notice the songs you hear, unlike the Fanatics commercials on all the team can of games and stuff like that. That's all him. So, he's all right, Good friend of Jerry's as well and yeah it's pretty cool to see his success and it was just a fun. We were like in our gosh like late 20s, maybe early 30s and but the ban actors is still very much a thing, and they're doing extremely well or touring all over the place Europe and North America and so is doing his own thing too now. So I mean it's fun to watch acting is what got you out of the way. From the East Coast. But is that your first lover is music? Your first love or you like your kind of 50/50 or what would you say? That's a good question, you know? Acting was definitely the thing that gave me the bug. However, like my dad is a musician, and he's kind of big issue in the in Nova Scotia, and we I just grew up with it, just really. It was just, it was just always around and something I play. I did it all through high school. I did it came out to Vancouver, and I was like, no I am just going to be an actor and then somehow I got kind of weaseled into that band. Okay, why don't you come and play? They said I remembered very well because they before I would always play bass, but they already had a bass player and so is this junior? Wake think it's just my ice machine. Oh sorry. Yeah. Okay, keyboards. And I was I could get by. There's not a lot of big parts, and I am not sitting there two-handed. It's a lot of just like single things. Yeah, I said okay, I will you know what? I can bring to figure that out. I actually quit. Put stickers on the keys. So I knew what keys and notes we were in just adjusting just in case. Yeah, they all look the same. Yeah, we were, we were alone in Edmonton. Wow, that's a big one. Is stickers on your keyboard. A sin that I have felt at home. Well, I was gonna make the comparison that. I mean this TV heart attack. It's you had a bit of a Sloan vibe there with the harmonies and The Rock and the rocking harmonies which is something Sloan does really well. And you know, that sounds great. Yeah, in fact, little known fact is I made. I made the one guy feel like he was so old. But I said, hey, you know, when I was a kid like when I was like, I don't know, probably 12 or something, there was this studio and Halifax where my dad was doing his first album. Okay. Well, you're gonna have to tell us who your dad is because you have now eluded awwe. McDonald, Hugh McDonald awesome. Yeah, so he's like Scottish Folk. Okay, John Prine kind of stuff, right? So he was recording on the back end of the day when Sloane was super young and doing their first album and I would go in and I would see Sloan like leaving with all her gear, The Rock stuff. Yeah like rock because they're originally from these Close before they moved to Toronto from Halifax. Yeah. So I so then Dad would go in and just like his country thing and anyway, I would just sit around and just kind of take it all in and I always remembered them from that and then when we were opening up for them, uh this was like I gotta bring this up. I got to tell ya. Absolutely ho thanks man. You made me feel so you might have been witnessed do to them recording some like, you know, iconic songs. You never know. Yeah, the first, the first batch. Yeah. They're very First album, it was pretty cool. I am sure. Wow, pretty cool. That's one of your favorite band. They are one of my all-time favorite Canadian bands. For sure. They're up there. Yeah, with the hip. There's like hips loan, and they and everyone else, we're just revolve, like I didn't really realize after when we were playing with them, really did. Two shows. It was like Calgary Edmonton thing, but, yeah, they just the amount. I like, okay, one guy singing this song I wanna sing. These are all of a sudden. He's playing bass. He's playing They do the bass player, the guy who usually plays bass, he got behind the kit, and he was actually almost as good, if not better than they were. We saw them. They're all great at The Phoenix concert, the concert theater, they did one chord to another from beginning to end like an order, it was the 25th anniversary of that album and then the second half, they did all their hits and stuff, great f****** night. But yeah, they just basically would switch instruments, and they were all equally proficient at all of them. It was insane. I am afraid forever. Yeah, absolutely forget how many songs? Yeah, they have got. Got so many of these share the rating credit. I mean, there are true bands like those guys. There are no egos in that band. I don't think I didn't see my way. So yeah. Anyway, this is about you. You not slow enough? Yeah, yeah. We could do just music later maybe part two, so hockey, then how far did you get go with hockey? Was it just kind of high school and done? Or did you go beyond that? Yeah, there was like there was, I don't know what you're like, AAA and Tier 1. Hmm, I got him. Right to a camp with Junior didn't work out. Played like two games of Junior. See. Okay. And what position were you forward for? Yeah. Seriously or defense goalie, I was forward. Okay. I dabbled back there every once in a while, playing D. But yeah, I was never his. Never goalie was never a goalie and Justin Road hockey and so it was pretty cool too. You know, when you get these like, you're a baseball player or anything, you know about like a film, that you go to sport that you care about like that it's yeah it's pretty awesome. And at this caliber to of like the writing and the in the comedy with in this was a it was a dream and like I have had the we're not the weirdest but like the weirdest experiences out of just in the regular world and on the street with hockey players that come up, and they're like dude yeah well Terry Ryan and his interview with us said that he's now being recognized out on the street in the states where ever, he goes more for sure, Z than for his hockey career. You guys have no I am sure. Yeah, I was just in Newfoundland shooting an episode of Hudson of Rex nice and so Terry's there, and I am like, okay well let us hang out. I am actually going to pick him up from the airport in a few days here. Oh yeah, yeah he's coming to Toronto for a few days but um, so I go out with this guy like he's the king. I know that he was a star there but this is this was whole other level like he's the mayor saying John, right? I am not even kidding, you can't even walk down the street you walked into Place. You couldn't even you couldn't buy your own drink like their like, no we got you. Oh, you're with Michaels. We went to a Growlers game which is in the ECHL, I think. Yeah. And that was like from elderly people to Die, Hard young, hockey fans to even like these little girls that were apparently his daughters friends right there. All were coming up and saying hi. And I was just love them, but they're not, they're not in awe of them, they're just that It's just he's our Terry like, he's not dead. He's just, yeah, he's just the guy. He has no personality for days in that dude. Like yeah, oh my God, you sure some great stories back to acting real quick. So you're in a movie called The Devout and you were actually nominated for a Best Supporting performance by mail and emotion picture in 2015. Yeah, that's great. How was that? Like what, you know, for those who may not know the movie? What was it doing? A lot of people don't see these Canadian. But smaller budget. But yeah, it was bad. That was you know there's a lot of like comic book stuff. I have done there's a lot of sci-fi, just different. Yes I fly. This was nice to be able to just settle into like a basic human story but it had some elements of A little bit of sci-fi, actually, because it was based on a true story about a young girl who is terminally ill and could hear and sense these, these things. And they thought that they could heal her by a certain technology. In any way, I won't ruin the movie. It's, I think it's on Amazon Prime. So, hey, go check it out. It's yeah, it's a movie. Absolutely, and yeah, I was just a very grounded role that I don't normally get to play, so it was nice too. Kind of stretch your wings a little bit and do something like that. And it was and honestly it was just really nice to be recognized for that. So they're gonna pin win but the movie cleaned up. It's an honor to be nominated. Apparently we have heard from like Susan Lucci right now? Actually, just nominated for Michaels 400. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, right there. Canadian screen Award, right? Yeah. And win. What's his name there? From Will & Grace. He won. Oh, Sean. But yeah, in a minute is that Orbit, they did come back for bit. Didn't they at? I feel like that's not there. That shouldn't be allowed. But anyway we were cheering for a we were voting for you. Thanks man. Yeah, let us so let us talk about some of these other so for example, I mean Smallville tang and I watched all of it, obviously Victor did to the put He made you his background. You did four episodes on that. That was so you were, I kept like they used to be called freaks of the week when you were one of those are? No, no, he was strong. He was, he was an important character, dude. He was like a hacker for the evil. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I am quite trying to read it at the beginning about what it was for checkmate. So Checkmate. That's right. Yeah, that's yeah. That's the logo. Okay, I see what was it like being out on that kind of production? That was a pretty big production. Yeah, so big, yeah, yeah. So big dad, great directors on it. I had known a lot of the cast from Living in Vancouver, and we had a lot of mutual friends through the years that they were there and Chris And few other people. And so it was kind of cool I dread for the show a bunch over the years, but just never really got it. And then when I did I was this part was actually pretty cool. So and unbeknownst to me, I didn't know what where was going like at first, it was just this, you know, young like you said, like Victor said of their young hacker essentially, then I was going to start working alongside the Chloe character, and we're going to, you know, start like maybe doing a little bit of a partnership and then some stuff happens. And then I realized then they come and tell me, they're like, so you're not the guy. You think you are like, okay, go on likes. You're actually working for checkmate in your an agent was like, oh, so I am not. Chloe, was your phone Harvard graduate? Like, I was a kid. No, you're five years older and you're an agent was like, okay, okay. All right, good to know, that's how TV works. To go. See ya back then. Two people were really blogging hard, like there was the beginning of. Oh yeah. And it's like going on after an episode and because these damn podcast Following TV shows around with didn't exist yet, right? Yeah. But they would dictate. I sometimes think how the stuff was written. Like honestly, if the fans were really wanting something to go one way, I think. If the box, if I remember correctly, I do I think you and a man. Anda Waller. Well, not you. But your character and Amanda Waller were together inside the castle when it was destroyed by Zod and then your Fates weren't completely. So it was kind of little ambiguous, whether you were I know it or not. I want to talk some more work because you could cause he didn't see you die. I know. They were like, we're leaving it open. You could come back then the second last season and I, and they were just trying to like for a long nap time. Do they want to wrap it up? Yes. Season 9 much going on in the show. Well they had that rule watch it all over I really love that show ya the rule for a while. There are no flights no tights, right? They were never going to show Superman in uniform or five last episodes. But in the last episode they did, but I believe the last the whole last season, the creators of the show weren't part of that season either, right? So if ever, they were going to break The rule I remember vaguely something like that. It was kind of like a whole Community thing where the creators of the show stopped because they didn't want to, you know, continue it but maybe the network. Wanted it at least one more season out of it or something. I forget what it was now. It's been feels. Like it was so long. I mean, all the executives, all the directors on that show has gone on to do like ABS? Yeah well I mean it's deep. I mean you're considered your part of the DC Universe, right? It's pretty cool you are. Yeah. And I mean, We're also on Arrow and on flash to. So the, there's some but before we get into the other shows, uh, yeah. And, you know, you don't have to get into this just because it's a, it's a hickey topic, but I am just kind of curious. Do you remember where you were and what your reaction was when you found out about your castmate and what she was involved with I am talking about Alison, of course. So do you have like, refresh my memory because they're you she yeah, she's dropped. Some kind of bomb and I forget what it was? I just kind of got canceled. Didn't mean respectfully. I would like to maybe just not comment to me. Yeah, yeah. And that's like because only because truth be told yeah. We were very tight friends. A long time. Yeah. It's the truth. That's the truth. And so, we will move on. It's all good. You're almost all this stuff you know. It's heartbreaking, to be honest. So I just hope I hope there's some healing to be done. I will say that. And well, it sounds like she's going to be given a chance because she, you know she was get sent to prison. I think for three years. And so she's, so she still has her life in front of her and completely forgotten anything that happened there, and I will be looking it up after this. I will say that she's an extremely sweet girl, and she was one of my favorite characters on that show, like just Many people say yeah, I love that show. So he made some bad life choices and hopefully, you know, she will be given looks like, you know, like I said, it's a relatively speaking. It's a short sentence compared to what the other people involved kind of were God? And so hopefully she will be able to turn things around and be given another chance. Yeah. Hey, I agree. Yeah. Now I will quickly go through the show. Another show, you run that a lot of Letterkenny guys have been on Supernatural you were on two episodes of that. How was that? Yeah, those guys are the best. Yeah, Jensen. And oh gosh, his name is escaping me right now but those guys are just salt. The Earth very inviting onset. No one. I would never feel any ego or anything like that and I mean they just they did it so well, they just don't even no, you know, they were just those characters, Sam and Dean. So that was a really. That was a bit of an institution in Vancouver for sure. Yes, 11, 14, Seasons 15 Seasons. Some I think so. Yeah, it's a salon. Yeah, I mean they recycled me so, yeah, I think we did the same with Tyler Johnson. Yeah. And these aren't like streaming Seasons like Letterkenny 6 episode seasons. These are full-blown Network Solutions. Yeah, thanks. Three episodes. I think they would do. This wild crazy is crazy, it is crazy. I rarely hear about that anymore, but does that now make you eligible for the Rockville, the Comic-Con circuit, like Tyler Johnson said, he's been able to do some of that, I am waiting. Yeah, so if anyone's out there right now they want to call and invite me out to some of these things. I will definitely go. Perfect battle start alone. Get a lot of emails about that. You bring that one up and that was the next one. I was going to hit because tang and I watched that and I love that show. That was Such a well-made house, fun. Maybe there might be an action figure of you out there somewhere. Yeah. Have you looked? There's something there're some things. Yeah. There's like Pike they call me Pike like Gonzo Pike was the name and actually a, so I still got my dog tags from it. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, but yeah, it's that show was so well-received. Also, wild I am out at the beginning, just as intended to be. Like a miniseries and then it was just so good that they're like, okay, well we need to keep going, and they cast it almost you know not all but a lot of (Vancouver) local actors that went on to do some great things, Grace Park. Oh yeah tommo penikett. I mean I am sure I am forgetting a few people but it was such a cool experience and to have that budget of a show was crazy. I remember so, I don't know if people remember but the, so I regret it. But anyway, no one's listening. Where you can tell, you can tell me where he. Yeah, we were at lunch on Battlestar and I had just gotten this movie. It was like a movie the week and it was with the director that I worked with before, and, and he wanted me to be in this movie with them again. And he said, The way, the way that it's going to work within the family's if you go to bleach your hair blond. Uh-huh. You like to kind of like match the family a little bit better. I said, okay, well that's cool. But yeah, why not? Let us do it. So, anyway, they Battlestar had essentially, the script like we were working on sad. And then the new script came out for the next episode and people go back to their trailers, and they're reading that quick to be like, do I die? That's right. Yeah, that was a show. That wasn't afraid to kill off their flashbacks and all kinds of things so. So, anyway, I was, I was like, you said, okay, Ryan, by the way you are in the Next episode. So, and that was an honor, right? Like I was on this, the it was the last season of the show, and we were a small crew in this one thing. And, and I wanted to be, like, it's much as I could. Yeah, nothing against this movie, but it was, you know, there was a big honor to be on that show. And I said, look, I said, I don't know what to say tomorrow, I am supposed to go to this, like, hairdresser dye my hair blond and start shooting on Monday for this movie, and they were, they were You could tell they were a little they're like, oh really, okay. So we sat down with the writers and at lunch and I think the scene that we shot in the afternoon. After lunch, I wasn't supposed to get punched out but I start lipping off to tamos character, and he and they were like, just punch him out. And then he's out cold for the next episode. Stick him in a broom closet. Something. That's, so we're supposed to have this Mutiny the next episode, and I am supposed to be there, and so they literally pretended to punch me out. I went dye my hair blonde. Did this movie, The we came back, they killed me? So yeah, yeah, good times on the test. They thought enough of you to bring you back to kill you. So that's nice. I mean you could have yeah, they could have just forgotten in the grand gesture film, right? It was amazing there like this Punk wants to go to a movie the week guys are blonde in the middle of shooting dark because the hit show imagine what they're thinking. Yeah anyway. That's funny retrospect I guess. Yeah that's played at least two characters that have been killed. So yeah. Oh at least I have been killed a few times and I got a sweet. I am not even joking. It was a ripoff of On the plane, and it's on the in your pants. Pants on ants on a boat or plane. I thought I have seen every plane movie, so I am going to have to dig out one hand. You got a big shovel dig that one up. Anyway, I have got the swallowed by quicksand. Oh, wait. That's um, that's a nightmare that anyone who grew up watching Gilligan's Island, has that nightmare? Yeah, there're some quicksands out there. Mississauga here in Ontario, if you're not paying attention, really? Yeah. And clone the 401. Highway, there's this sign. I don't it's still there for years. It said, don't or it said like some like caution quicksand here, like it was just a random Forest patches on the floor. One and I sign for quicksand. Yeah, can't make that s*** out. Okay, okay, so it's here. It's amongst, I will check it out. Yeah, they're real other things that it was a legitimate. Our street or something I think here. Oh yeah, I saw the massive hole that opened up on the road. Dropped on the talking. Anyways, we're at Shore. See now. Now you told us you read for the part and you got that call from key so that must have been amazing. So I mean, let us describe, you know, you know, the first days on set. I mean for first days, I think like little shoots by the sounds of it that goes so quick. So, I mean what man, they do. Yeah, season one assures, you took you guys what a month, a month and a half two. Shoot like pretty just over a month. I believe it was kind of we went out with about a week before camera. At least. I myself I did get to meet a bunch of the guys you know rolled out with it's like Jordan Olin. We got to kind of have that drive together. Get to know each other at school. It was pretty cool. And then yeah I mean I think some of the guys It had a skate the day before, and I am there. My gear wasn't ready, quite yet. Like, they were doing stuff to the pads and stuff like that. And then but like as an actor who played hockey, whatever walking into that dressing room, I was lucky that I drove up with Jordan because it kind of broke the ice at least a little bit walking into a dressing room. There's you know, morass tea. Yeah, and like you No Terry is just sitting back there. Got the tunes blast in. He's clearly the room. DJ you know dolo who have recognized everyone. We were it was really cool Brandon to it was just a it was but it felt exactly the way that it was when I was playing as well. Like you just kind of walking is the new team. You're like, all right, what's up? All right, boys, like what's going on? Let us go, let us go. Let us get this going here. Who's got the two? Like, what's and I went around and just kind of introduce myself, but it was nerve-racking a little bit, you know, truth all those pros. And but Jordan, Jordan was Grady be kind of piped up. Let them know like he was you pump my tires a little bit in front of the boys and you know, made the transition did, you know, Jordan before Zod problem. But no, no, we just go up together and in the transport and stuff. Oh, I see. Okay, we got to know each other. Now, he's our biggest most accomplished. Yeah. He's the most accompany and out of that. He's got three Cup Rings. I went into the hockey school with him and his brother, Brandon up north and that was a pretty cool experience to see all the kids, just reacting to, you know, his rings and, and just the accolades. And so it was, it's pretty, its yeah, it was really cool and I love to have some of those guys are good, guys. He's a, he's a huge, huge cinephile. Yeah, and loves you. No, good TV, good. Good movies. Was it was easy to talk to ya, for sure? Cool. So very few actors. When I say the words that one seam will know what I am talking about. I feel like you when I ask you the question about that one scene, you will know exactly what I am talking about. So we're going to talk about that one. See if you don't mind, I think I am a helmet before you answer, I gotta prep, is it? So you have already said that when you first read it, you day you didn't know that you're going to become the goalie. So it sounds like you didn't know everything. Ahead, know, when this one scene was presented in front of you. Were you given any advance notice or did you just kind of read it and then go what the f***? No, no. I was given what we notice here. Like are you cool stuff? And I was like well what context? So they told me, and I was like, well let us go and I mean Jared such a good writer and Comedy within the show was fantastic. And the situational stuff that we got to deal with was even better and the relationship I have with Natasha and then show really kind of like makes it so much more Awkward my knee, you know, like so yeah, I just thought it'd be funny and it just is really funny and shocking to so, so, yeah, I don't know. I mean, I was just, I was I am down for the cause Pause. So it was very shocking and it was very funny. Yeah. And you contact his attention. I thought I would be more funny than anything. So, um, so yeah. So it and it turned out I guess it was and hopefully well I like that. It wasn't in the first episode of so often whenever way I was done those shocking things. They do that like in the first episode of a series and then it Goes down after that like you, they don't really shocked you after that because they want to get the viewership. I like that. This was kind of Hidden Gem. Yeah, and you know, it's a, it's a reward for staying with the show if you want. Well, that the character was already built up, and we kind of knew who we were interacting with and the relationship kind of between the two. So that was already there and established, right? And but yeah, Michaels is such a bit of a sad. It character. Yeah. Yeah. And that just added to it. It's great. So we have got some questions from listeners and I mean more than a few of them are about the scene. So you will excuse me, if some of these are redundant or you can pass on them if you want to as well. So first one is from our friend agent, and I am at, when I asked, okay, any questions for Ryan McDonald? He said, well, the prosthetic is an obvious one, so he wants to know prosthetic or not. No comment. The first prosthetic they pulled out. So sorry, Adrian. We tried. We tried. We asked. Yes, question. And he also has some questions about 16 shrapnel, but I believe you have answered all those. Where was that video from? Where were you guys playing? Was that in that van Gogh? We're you guys reply back home? Yeah very cool Jared. I worked at a place together for a little while and that's where we all met. Yeah. And then yeah the band was it was more, it was just fun, and so we were just doing it for fun and then right you guys are playing Originals that like you were writing. You write songs on. Yeah. But we were right in the middle like three minutes. Okay. Like I got a rift Lego. What do you want to say? And it was say this. Okay songs. Done next. Like she rehearsed it a bunch. Now let us just go rip it. Yeah, there's only two of you do it so you don't need to rehearse. Yeah. I am in a band of five so you need to practice. Everyone needs to be on the same page with two people. Exactly? Not at each other. Yeah. Yeah. That's why we faced each other play. Yes. Very good. Let us see here. Sure is c-can. He skate. Oh yeah. Well we have established that you better than most people probably hockey. Oh yeah. Okay. Oh yeah, so we established you play well. My own with the skating. It's the waffle shot that I have these days that I can't write can't shoot anymore. It's skating with goalie pads. It's also yeah, little bit trickier than regular ski it is that the skates are so good though. Right now, I am going to show do true hockey that they fitted me up and my God, I literally went like right out of the box onto the ice. Nice. So on In case you miss it is. We have asked everyone so far from all of you, hit the ice who was the best hockey player? The slot so are the slots. Ooh, that's a tough question of all the answered its own people, right? Yeah, we can tell you who the ant with the answers are, if you want with before I would say it was Terry Ryan. Terry Ryan think said it was Terry, right? Dola said it was himself, ha. I will say, I was supremely impressed with Brandon. Okay sure. I mean, the music is such a triple shot like he could well now this was his brother. Oh okay. Yeah he stopped because of injuries like, right. Right for he was with Caroline, I think? Yeah. It was with Carolina. Yeah. He like when we were doing certain drills to, like, kind of navigate with how we're going to score and just of I was, I was impressed with him. It really was not to say that the other guys are. I mean there? Yeah that's a tough. That's a real. Of question. So because we establish that there was a lot of like, once they got on the ice in the competitive juices would take over now your internet, your nets. So first of all, you're not a trained goalie. So did you have to have some kind of instruction? I could make it look like, I knew what I was doing now. If like, not to give the whole bunch of way, I don't know, like, especially, you know if we get to go back and do more, I want, I would like to do more in the net. But, you know, we will see. We will see how that goes. But, yeah, they the thing about it with everyone is that the, you know, we weren't like a lot of other hockey shows. Unfortunately, they, you know, everyone has a stunt double, we're all of them were doing their own stuff. Sure. And it and they could do it. Yeah, looks good. That's why. Yeah, I mean, the Brilliance of that show is that he went with hockey players first actor s. Yeah, with real guys. And so that was like, that was an eye-opening experience to, to watch it all kind of come together and, you know, how he does those montages and things with the like good choices of music and stuff like that. So it comes together really nicely and Yeah, sort of well it's good but do not pro tip. Pro tip is don't duck. Yes. Yeah. If you can remember not to duck as a goalie, you will do it right and the whole like, you know, like that looks horrible. Yeah, we did say like, you know, the more like tight goals that can just sneak by is going to look more authentic, right? More authentic. And not just like these So, all you just got Deke right out of your pants, your single gold so, well, the Crux of my original question. Was, how competitive did it get on the ice? But I will ask it this way because it's a bit. Sure, it's definitely a bit like, Yeah. Fish are character fish. Yeah. Like he was recast. Yes, yes, we know that story I think actually, Terry Ryan. My you said he was one of the better players or something like that. I don't know the second guy. Yeah. Yeah. Lady can still score goals even though he's a, you know, quote unquote fighter. Yeah, but, I mean he was 8th overall. I think it was eighth overall. So I mean that he can't, that's nothing to shake a stick, a shrink well. So because you're in that, And if these guys are, maybe, you know, flipping some shots at you. These are guys with, like major league shots, we're there sometimes, really okay guys f*** off, like, stop that's hurting me right now. Like, when I do get forgets, what I would send in the double. Okay, I will see you saw. There was a double, I did have a double, you know, nine times out of ten. I was grabbing someone's out, stick and screwing around boss and you know, passing around and stuff like that but I we yeah, they my double did a great job, you know, making it look good, and we had to like switch hands because of it because of a little bit goofy. So I had to kind of go to the other way because I am a right-handed shot and I still like to keep it that way when I am goalie and there's not a lot of them out there that do that and that's a huge is virtually impossible to find out. Find a double that was that hand. So, so we, yeah, we made it where I just switched over and did a little bit less. But it was yeah it's just great. Being able to, they did a great job, sending some guys up to Toronto before I went out to Sudbury, and we did some skates together and just learned about all the because it's such a it like every year I am sure there's stuff that involves with the position and the way that they just simple things from pushing off the post, You Know cover the way they're covering their ice like you know. Yeah the way that they just like huh God. Up were used to just stand up and not allowing them to are down like, just butterflies now. So it's there's stuff that's always constantly changing, and I am really interested in that because I want to keep it as, you know, as real as possible. And yeah it's just we have a wealth of knowledge with the people that are all on board with the show. So it's pretty cool. If you got questions for them to answer them. So nice to partner here from our friend. Casey first one was, what was your favorite scene to film? Question. I was nervous about that. The seeing that was it was fun man, we laughed. Like if there're ever bloopers that come out of that, my God I couldn't rule out the hardest through that. Senior additional tasks. Yes. I think you know it was the first day and I had never acted with Jared before, right? And so is that lockers the locker room scene? When we first meet you? It was knows one outside of it. Were he was like hey man, you got it. Can you learn how to juggle the only catch me like first back? And yeah, he likes it like a month learning, but, but, but yeah. So when he comes down, and he, and we meet up, and he says like right, oh my God. God, is this the goalie that we're getting now? Yeah, and I say you can't talk to me like that was. That was fun. That was I really that was the first scene. I think I shot and it really made me feel at home. We rattled it off. We did a good job. We did it pretty fast as we do. Yeah. Not makes him apologize to you and you stand there with everything with you and Jared is hilarious, by the way, like some space between you two is. So on point and Play so natural. I love it. Well, it's so funny. You pick that? That means a lot funny. You pick that scene because Casey's part tutor, her question was? When did you learn to juggle, and he learned it for that silly? Yeah. 100% just prior to the show. That's funny. Diana, bought me some of these training balls. And I remember when I first got it, we were down in Los Angeles, and I was on the beach just trying to. I couldn't just it's hard. I have tried it. I don't want snot. It's this. It's like a thing that It's like a switch. It just something switches me. Like, oh no, I get it. Okay and there I watched this. What I watched all these tutorials on YouTube and this one woman just somehow just made it click in my head and then all of a sudden, I was like, oh, okay, I got it. Then when you got a camera on, you are like, okay. Of course, I am going to draw them a few times. But um, yeah. So hopefully that's a, that's a new little trick. You can put it on your resume, just a few more questions. I know we're running. On time but oh good, the Potlatch Eddie scenes. Adrian wants to know, how did you keep it together working across from those two? Guys, I couldn't believe it and I thought that was like such a ridiculously bold choice on the way that they kept her face. Yeah. It was, it was a choice already. They had already done it on that, I think like in scenes in the audience. So It was established. Like that's what these guys look like. Yeah. And we went and I had this scene. It was when I go into the limo and I get them in. Am like, hey guys, we got him. That was the first time I had met the guys and the first and I didn't see them making the face at all. Like we barely had time to rehearse. It was a really, really quick scene. We're almost didn't need to rehearse. I just go to look at the camera and say or look up and go like hey we got them. Something along those lines. That I look over at the two of them, and they're making that face. And I think I broke and I just, I looked at those like, because serious, and they're like, oh yeah, yeah, and so, like the one guy with the jaw down, it comes like face. Like I just yeah. Yeah, that was, that was funny and super unexpected. I knew they were going to do something weird, but it was, it was intense. Our buddy. Mikey wants to know how is it becoming a new dad with, you know, your perspective? Career has it changed. Kind of, how do you balance work and family? Well, I don't know if you could hear him crying up there. Rosie crying not much he's just eating but okay, this is where you get to thank your partner. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Because she's done. She's done so much. She's done so much. She's also an actress to and okay terrific. And she's had to go off and do jobs as well, and we have kind of been taken turns you know, night after night. I am excited. I am starring in a movie. That I am going to be producing luckily enough, which is kind of new territory for me in the summer this year. So, you know, trying to like trying to Branch out in that regard, nice into some different hats I guess is you will within the film industry hopefully to just you know just to continue to like provide and then just yeah be a good dad within its. So it's Eye-opening experience, he's such a good kid. So we're lucky in that regard but yeah, just it's it changes. It doesn't change like the love of it or anything like that, but it makes you take it that much more serious, you know, really try to Branch out on some, some different like ideas like, you know, in the big picture so that you can may not be able to be in front of the camera forever. So just hopefully, you know, just keep having something on the go basically. It's all right, my friend awesome. She's the moderator on the Letterkenny Reddit, which is Strong. And I believe the shores he read it is, I mean, it's not quite that big yet but it's growing as well. So she moderates on both of those and her question as always is, would you do would you like to do an AMA which is asked me anything on Reddit, for one of these days for her? Yeah, why not? Yeah. All right. I will put her in touch with you and yeah, yeah, why not? I will be fun, and I am sure they will be lots of people going to ask you lots of questions about whether it's a prosthetic or not. Those. So the yeah, be ready with your. Answer I like yeah, it's amazing. Final comment question. It's not a question. It's a comment from our friend Crystal. She says, kudos for making a character that I thought, why would loathe but making him lovable and one of my favorites and that's from Crystal. So yes, yes, well done. That's so, so thank you. Thank you. And it's funny when she said that I responded in our sort of sub. And I love this comment because Ryan, I weirdly agree with it and I remember like the first episode and then even that The scene I am like okay I was stealing you out and then you did very quickly become what I feel was one of the most impressive and powerful characters in the whole season and most important characters as there's so many key moments beyond that brought everything together and that's I mean I think that pays tribute to your acting chops as well because you had this real versatility of this up and down right to the very end. One of my favorite moments was, I don't remember exact with said, but essentially Sanger was apologizing, for getting the squeezer. From your honey at the right? And then you're just reaction to that. I am like this. Dude's the real deal. And, and yeah, it was such a great sort of Full Circle moment for you and I loved it. So, I agreed with her needs. Thanks so much. That means a lot, man. You know, I have always kind of been in the belief that like you're only as good as your writing, right? That's in front of you and you know, I got it, you know, you got to give big kudos to Jared for writing those scenes, and I was able to, you know, take and shape it in the way that I saw fit, and I am glad you guys think that's really yeah. You definitely made the MVP list for a few words episodes per first. Yeah well you have just such a huge character development right from America, huge Arc, from where it started to where you went. So you're getting is some instruction off-screen. So, We will try to keep these. Oh, it's all good. Okay. Okay. Matthew want to ask your questions. I always ask her when this the same question and you have already made a little-known I will preface it with this is that you have realized that there's a tension and say the US and things like that. I mean we have a pretty good sense of the fact that Letterkenny and now Shores you become very big are growing as big cult phenomenon. So we like we lister's all over the world in which means you guys have viewers all over the world. From your perspective, as a Canadian is an actor. What does it feel like to be a part of something like, Shores knowing kind of where it's where it started where it is and where you think it's going to go? What's it feels like to be a part of the show? Well, it's just a special family and the fact you know that there's only really six episodes out there of it. And the reactions that we have got from just that is crazy. You kind of have a bit of a built-in fan base He's from Letterkenny, but at the same time, there was a lot of I think new fans that came across your Z, that maybe went back and watched Letterkenny now, which is product roots of pretty cool. I have heard a few people say that to me and you know, that just makes you feel like You're doing the right work, you know, I guess. Jacob is such a special director and a talent beyond belief so funny. And so, you know, to work with him and there and him and Jared is this like kind of two-headed monster over there? You know, steering the ship, they do such a good job and it obviously resonates with people kind of all over Ford from people even overseas and stuff like that, like Ireland and Australia. V. Yeah. Yeah. We have a few listeners from there. Yeah, yeah. So I mean it's just it's, it's special. Like I said, like you don't get to do these jobs all the time and have the, you know, be able to do things like this and meet certain people are have people stop. Stop you and you know talk to you about you know the show or ask questions and so it's just it's like a responsibility to be able to give back like that when it's Given you so much. So, yeah, for sure you have any other questions, how much was scripted? And how much did you just kind of put into the character of a scripted? It was all scripted a yeah. Yeah, that's all scripted the. The I don't think there was. There might have been the odd but not that for the most part. Yeah, everything is like it is on the page. It's you do such an amazing and Amazing job with your character. It just truly it does come across as just so funny and so genuine it just it did his character is hilarious right? You know the right there and ever guitar girl named like 17 times. I am going to try and say it as many different. Oh my God. That was that, what was your favorite part? So what a face, Someone some guy text me. And he's like my wife's name is Nat, and he put it on her phone like a ringtone dad. That's awesome. Yeah. There's a just started that. I think I am a little late to the game. Be sure to join that along. Love your commercial though. I saw the your little little lad. Yeah. Yeah, that was. I shot it the wrong way. I guess. I don't know. Of course, Uncle style. I was shooting at all but edited it. Yeah, you're thinking too much like a filmmaker. Not I give Billy but recall Hill. Hell. Yeah, hell yeah. So tell ya Victor. Do you have any final questions? Yeah. Really. The only question is because you were struggling to answer the question earlier in terms of where is your true passion acting or music? So I guess, Wondering like, are you still doing anything on the side re writing songs? Like what are you doing on the music side of things? I would like to eventually like score some stuff with in film. So.
